PREVIEW THOUGHTS
This film, along with Gladiator and Mission: Impossible 2, is one of the
"blockbuster" releases of the year. The preview for this movie first
surfaced in the middle of last year, so Australian audiences have had to wait along time
to see the full feature but anyone who has seen the preview/s will no doubt be licking
there lips in anticipation.
Using revolutionary computer animation, Disney has brought the dinosaurs to life in all of
their glory. The animation looks nothing short of sensational so lets just hope that
the story matches.
Set in the late Cretaceous Period, the film revolves around a young dinosaur, Aladar, who
has been raised by a clan of lemurs and who must lead the lemurs, and some other
dinosaurs, to safety after the earth is devastated by a meteorite. That is a very basic
plot outline and I'm sure that the film is much more "in depth" then that.
Some people have pointed out similarities in the plotline with several other recent
animation films such as "Tarzan" and "The Prince of Egypt" but the
fact that the premises' are similar does not mean that the films will be. Nearly all
Disney films aim to convey the same "messages" to it's audiences so any
similarities in the plots are irrelevant.
Yes, the dinosaur's do speak but ,interestingly, the speech is confined only to the
"good" dinosaurs. All the "bad" dinosaurs are mute. Why Disney
opted to do this is unknown but hopefully it will not be detrimental to the film.
Reports are that this film does not feature the typical Disney plethora of songs.
Whether any songs are featured is unknown at this stage, but if the Dinosaur's choose not
to sing then it would not be a great loss. That is not to say that the songs in
previous Disney films were bad, in fact in most cases they are what made the film's work,
but somehow the idea of singing Dinosaur's does not sit right.
Dinosaur has done big business in the U.S and expect it to have similar success here in
Australia. An animated Disney movie nearly always provides above average
entertainment and Dinosaur shapes as another Disney classic.
