PREVIEW THOUGHTS: A nice bit of casting may save this Australian film from being tossed on the rubbish heap which so many recent Australian films occupy. Kylie Minogue stars as "Jess" is this $2 million film from first time director Clinton Smith and Minogues' presence is an essential ingredient in this films success, or lack of it. Sure, Minogue is not, as yet, a notable actress but what she provides is a recognizable name and that may be enough to push a few more people though the cinema door. The story has been described as an urban thriller and involves some pretty shifty characters stabbing each other in the back. Sounds like this film is going for a "Two Hands" kind of feel but it is very hard to see this film achieving the same level of success. If you feel like supporting the Australian industry, then go and see Looking for Alibrandi instead. |
