PREVIEW THOUGHTS:    O.K.  Let's pretend that you are a movie producer and you are looking for the perfect director for your next project.  The movie is to star Meryl Streep and former popstar Gloria Estefan (she hasn't had a hit in a while, so I'm pretty sure we can call her a former popstar).  Streep will play a violin teacher who inspires her students, most of whom live in Harlem, so much that they end up playing a concert at the legendary Carnegie Hall.  There's is one obvious choice isn't there. A man is has built his reputation on films which capture the human spirit and leave viewers with a warm fuzzy glow inside.  And that man is........Wes Craven!!!  That can't be right, it must be a mistake.  There is no way that the king of horror would direct a "chick flick".  Sorry folks, it is true.   Craven has replaced Krueger with Streep and, apparently,  has done a pretty good job as well.  In fact, this was somewhat of a pet project for Craven.  He was so determined to make the film his way, that Madonna, who was originally cast in Streep's role, dropped out of the project due to "creative differences".   Probably a good thing.  Music of the Heart is a undoubtedly "chick flick", not a bad thing by any means. The movie has a lot of positives going for it, an interesting story, a great cast and a great director who spent a lot of time and effort getting this story to film.  Still, part of me still hopes that Freddy Krueger makes a special cameo appearance.
