PREVIEW THOUGHTS
Finally this film gets a release in the rest of the country (it was released in
Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia at the end of April) and fans of Martin
Scorsese should be pleased.
The master director is at the helm for this film that stars Nicholas Cage as an ambulance
driver who "patrols" the most dangerous district in New York City.
After he fails to save the life of one of his patients, he is haunted by her ghost and
this, coupled with the everyday torment of his job, leads him to the brink of a full
nervous breakdown.
As the storyline suggests, this film looms as a gut-wrenching drama and will ultimately
succeed on each of the viewers appreciation of Scorsese's and Cage's performances.
Cage produced his best performance (and won a Best Actor Oscar) for his role in Leaving
Las Vegas, a film that had a similarly uncompromising story, so Cage should be well suited
to role.
Scorsese is a genius so it is guaranteed that he will produce an excellent, if sometimes
hard to watch, film.
Why the rest of the country had to wait for the release of this film is unknown but now
that it has been released, it will be well worth a view.
Just don't expect to come out of the cinema smiling.
